Shawn Healey | The Dragon KOI Project Day 2 of 365: FOCUS FORWARD
My name is Shawn Healey. I've owned multiple businesses, been a Pilates and Fitness movement practitioner, an educator and consultant for over 20 years. Like many business owners, my career started with a passion. For me it was to help people feel better in their bodies and live better lives. I went to the University of Oregon, where I received my Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Movement Science and my Masters Degree in Sports Medicine. During and just following my college career I was a personal trainer at a local athletic club. I started my first personal training business in 1996. In 1997, I opened Carpe Diem Pilates and Personal Training Studio, my first fitness studio, which ultimately developed into a 9000 square foot complex offering a range of services that included traditional fitness, Pilates and CoreAlign training specialties and Physical Therapy. I've been a educator for Polestar Pilates Education, sat on the Board of Directors for the Pilates Method Alliance for 7 years, and am a master trainer for the CoreAlign Training System. My wife and I have developed teacher training programs for both the Pilates setting and the CoreAlign setting, and have partnered and opened a number of additional studios with a replication model in mind. Over the last 6 years I have consulted many small business owners and independent contractors, helping to guide them through their business development and challenges.
With all of these accomplishments, there was one problem. It was all based on moving "away from". Away from stress, away from lack of money, away from not enough time, away from...fill in the blank. I've learned that "away froms" are great motivators. They are also what causes us to repeat our mistakes. We get burnt out. We lose our passion. Our relationships, work environment, focus and drive diminish. In a world full of away froms, my mission is to be and teach focus forward. Looking toward a future with unlimited potential. We all have the ability, we just have to believe it. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of hard work, but the hard work is focused on what is in front of us. It should not be focused on the things that have "happened to us". It's easy to fall into the trap. Don't do it. Focus forward. Have gratitude. Allow your unconscious mind guide you to whatever it is in this world you want. Focus forward. Become aware of all of the information that your peripheral vision takes in. Create clarity for your future.
Focus Forward.
